Sri Lanka’s Kusal Mendis and Shehan Jayasuriya are unlikely to be fit for the third T20I against New Zealand, to be played on Friday – both of them picked up knee injuries after an on-field collision in the final over of the second T20I on Tuesday.Jayasuriya was running from long on, and Mendis from midwicket, in order to intercept an aerial Mitchell Santner hit that, if caught, could have turned the game in Sri Lanka’s favour. As it transpired, Jayasuriya did catch the ball, but as he was still running, was tripped up by the onrushing Mendis, and sent crashing into the boundary. That turned what could have been a wicket into a six, Jayasuriya unable to jettison the ball before he made contact with the rope.Mendis also fell to the ground outside the boundary, and both men were clearly in significant pain. They took several minutes before being helped up.”Mendis has suffered an injury on his knee on the right leg, while Jayasuriya has sustained an injury above the knee on his right leg,” an SLC statement said. “Mendis has undergone an MRI scan today and the report is due later in the day.”No replacements will be named, according to chief selector and team manager Ashantha de Mel, even though Sri Lanka only have one extra batsman – Danushka Gunathilaka – in the squad.Sri Lanka have already lost the three-match series 2-0.

Newcastle United have progressed massively over the course of the last 18 months under current boss Eddie Howe.

However, this season the club have regressed with the squad often depleted with multiple first-team members struggling with injuries and fitness for long periods.

Players such as Sven Botman, Callum Wilson and Joelinton have all struggled with injury problems, with Newcastle's results suffering as a result.

The club currently sit tenth in the Premier League, 15 points off a Champions League spot – a major gap compared to the season the club achieved last time around.

The subsequent form and results have brought rumours of a manager change, with former Bayern Munich boss Julian Nagelsmann linked with taking over the role in the near future.

So with that in mind, we take a look at the potential starting XI Nagelsmann could piece together should he take over the role at St James' Park.

1 GK – Nick Pope

The 31-year-old has been brilliant when fit for the Magpies, with the former Burnley 'keeper keeping 26 clean sheets in his 52 appearances for the club in all competitions.

He's more than capable of returning to his best when he returns from his latest injury setback, with the goalkeeper being a good fit for Nagelsmann's system.

2 RB – Kieran Tripper

The defender has been sensational during Newcastle's rise up the Premier League under Howe, taking the armband and leading the club back to where they once were.

Now aged 33, he's coming to the back end of his career, but he still does possess a lot of qualities that could help the club push back towards the Champions League spots.

3 CB – Sven Botman

Defender Sven Botman has been a brilliant addition for the Magpies since his £32m move from Lille during the summer of 2022.

Still only 24, he has the potential to develop into one of Europe's best centre-backs within the next few years, with the Dutchman a massive part of the club's future.

4 CB – Jules Kounde

The first of the potential additions is Barcelona centre-back Jules Kounde. The 25-year-old has featured 73 times for the Spanish giants since his big-money move from Sevilla.

He's previously been linked with a move to Tyneside, with the club looking to replace Fabian Schar with a younger partner for Botman.

Kounde is a quick, ball-playing centre-half who excels with his progressive passes. This season alone, he's averaged 7.1 progressive passes per 90 in La Liga – a tally that sees him rank within the top 1% of defenders in Europe. Known for a swift 'vertically-oriented approach' when playing through midfield, that type of passing would fit Nagelsmann's philosophy perfectly.

5 LB – Kieran Tierney

With Dan Burn struggling at left-back this season – notably dropping a 4/10 performance vs Luton – the Magpies will want a replacement for the former Brighton man, with the club potentially reigniting interest in Arsenal man Kieran Tierney.

The Scotland international is currently spending the season on loan at Real Sociedad in La Liga, but Newcastle may look to permanently buy the 23-year-old.

In La Liga this season, Tierney has averaged 3.1 tackles and 4.4 progressive passes per game – tallies that beat current Magpies left-back Burn, with the 6 foot 6 defender only able to manage 2.4 and 3.3 respectively.

6 CM – Sandro Tonali

A player whom Newcastle fans haven't seen the best of yet due to his ongoing suspension for breaking gambling rules during his stint at AC Milan.

The midfielder, who joined the Magpies for £52m last summer, only featured 12 times before his ban. However, he's only 23 with the Italian still having a huge future ahead of him.

7 CM – Bruno Guimaraes

Since signing for the club for £40m back in January 2022, Bruno Guimaraes has arguably been Newcastle's best player – especially this season when the side have struggled.

The Brazilian has been a leading figure in the Newcastle dressing room, with the former Lyon midfielder showing his talents on multiple occasions this campaign. His tenacious and workmanlike style would suit Nagelsmann, should he take over on Tyneside.

8 CM – Joelinton

Since arriving at the club originally as a striker, the Brazilian has swapped his role for a box-to-box midfielder, where he's excelled to the surprise of many.

The 27-year-old is entering the final 18 months of his contract, with Howe previously admitting they may have to sell the player.

However, the club should look to extend his current deal with the midfielder potentially being the perfect fit for Nagelsmann's relentless pressing system. After all, he has already played 35 times under the German at Hoffenheim, scoring 11 goals.

9 RW – Leroy Sane

A player who is no stranger to Nagelsmann after his time at Bayern is winger Leroy Sané. The German, who is now 28, is also entering the last 18 months of his contract, with the winger potentially open to a return to the Premier League having been linked with Newcastle earlier this term.

Sane – who is rated at £87m – made 135 appearances for Manchester City before returning to the Bundesliga where he's impressed once again.

With Miguel Almiron rumoured to be leaving St James' Park, the club may look to target Sane. When comparing the two, Sane dominates, with the German averaging 3.9 successful take-ons compared to Almiron's tally of just 1.1.

10 ST – Alexander Isak

The Sweden international has been sensational since his arrival from Real Sociedad back in July 2022 for £60m. The 24-year-old has scored 24 times in his 54 appearances for the club, with the striker having the potential to get even better during his time at the club.

He's dislodged fellow striker Callum Wilson from the starting lineup, with Isak having more than enough talent to play for most teams in the Premier League.

It was originally scheduled to end on October 13, with the knockouts – also in Bengaluru – starting from October 20.Overall, 17 of the 30 matches scheduled over the first three days ended with no result, with this year’s tournament being severely affected by rain, particularly in Bengaluru and Vadodara, the venues for Groups A and B. Under the new points system, the top five teams across both groups combined will qualify for the quarter-finals, leaving teams to feel the pinch of lost game time. Group C matches have been held as scheduled in Jaipur, where the weather has stayed clear. Plate Group matches in Dehradun have also had to deal with some rain and it is likely these, too, will be rescheduled.”We are working on the rescheduling and it should be done soon,” BCCI general manager Saba Karim told ESPNcricinfo. “We want to have as many matches as possible. Three of the groups were affected, A, B and D due to unseasonal rains, so we’re looking at how to accommodate those. Whilst much of the focus is centred around David Moyes' West Ham United future, the Hammers could be set to face an additional blow with one player's future at the club now in doubt.

West Ham transfer news

As things stand, Moyes' current contract is set to expire this summer, leaving West Ham scrambling for replacements. So far, reports have seen the Hammers linked with the likes of Gary O'Neil and Steve Cooper. O'Neil, currently in charge of Wolverhampton Wanderers, has taken the Midlands club from a side in fear of relegation to a side now competing in the Premier League's top half.

Cooper, meanwhile, has been without a job since his Nottingham Forest sacking earlier this season. After keeping them up in their first season back in the Premier League, Cooper failed to kick on, but could now have the opportunity at redemption in the form of the West Ham job.

If Moyes does depart, West Ham's transfer picture will become far clearer on the incoming front when the next manager takes up the hot seat. On the departure front, however, the rumour mill has already started, with one player's future now in doubt at the London club.

According to Roshane Thomas of The Athletic, Flynn Downes could yet leave West Ham this summer after an impressive loan spell at Southampton. The central midfielder only joined West Ham in 2022 for a reported £12m, but may now be heading for the exit door just two years later.

Moyes, if still in charge, will be well aware of the potential exit blow, having praised Downes' progress whilst at Southampton in a recent press conference. The manager said via The Athletic: "We’ve been watching Flynn and he’s playing in a good, successful team.

"We paid £12million for him and if you look at the boy (Adam Wharton) who joined Crystal Palace from Blackburn Rovers for £18m, sometimes you think it might be good value in the end. For Flynn, it would’ve been hard for him to get game time this season, but I’m really pleased he’s doing well at Southampton.”

"Brilliant" Flynn has earned a permanent move

Whilst out on loan at Southampton, Flynn has done exactly what's needed to earn a permanent move this summer, perhaps to the frustration of West Ham. If the Saints go up, he could quickly become their first signing. As things stand in the Championship, Southampton sit fourth and five points adrift of Ipswich Town in the final automatic promotion spot, meaning that anything is still possible.

What's more, manager Russell Martin is certainly a fan, saying via The Athletic: “He is a big player for us, he is important. He’s a brilliant character, he’s a winner, someone who’s aggressive and a brilliant athlete too.”

So, with that said, when the transfer window swings open, West Ham and potentially their new manager could face an instant battle to avoid a frustrating exit. The last thing those at the London Stadium will want, however, is to lose money on Downes, having spent £12m for his signature just two years ago.

PRESSÃO TRICOLOR

Com apenas seis minutos de jogo, o time do Fluminense já articulava os rumos da partida. Após pressionar a saída da Portuguesa-RJ e roubar a bola na intermediária canhota, Egídio fez boa trama com Gabriel Teixeira e cruzou na medida para Ganso. O meia, entretanto, cabeceou forte para grande defesa de Neguete e, no rebote, Samuel Xavier finalizou, mas viu a bola sair para linha de fundo.

VAR EM AÇÃO

Não demorou muito tempo para a Lusa acordar. Logo aos nove minutos, Wellington Cézar cabeceou após escanteio e a bola foi direto na mão de Ganso. Assim, depois de três minutos de paralisação e análise do VAR – pela primeira vez no Carioca -, o árbitro sinalizou a penalidade. Na cobrança, Marcos Felipe pouco pode fazer e Chay foi categórico para converter seu quarto gol na competição – segundo contra o Flu.

FLU NÃO ACERTA O ALVO

Depois de sofrer o gol, o Fluminense começou a se soltar mais na partida. Mesmo com a defesa adversária bem postada, o time conseguiu chegar com perigo e viu Abel Hernández desperdiçar duas boas chances.

Na primeira, o atacante tabelou com Gabriel Teixeira, saiu cara a cara com Neguete, mas finalizou em cima do goleiro. Já no final do primeiro tempo movimentado, o uruguaio viu Ganso finalizar para Watson salvar em cima da linha e, na sequência, não aproveitou o cruzamento de Gabriel Teixeira e, livre de marcação, cabeceou por cima do gol.

ROTEIRO REPETIDO

Após pressão inicial da Portuguesa-RJ no começo do segundo tempo, com duas finalizações de Chay e Romarinho, o Flu foi ao ataque e conseguiu uma penalidade a seu favor. Isso porque, igual ao primeiro tempo, mas para o outro lado, após cruzamento na área, Ganso – que havia cometido o pênalti da Lusa pelo mesmo motivo – se redimiu ao cabecear a bola e vê-la bater no braço do zagueiro Guerra.

Assim, depois de análise do VAR, o juiz marcou novamente a infração e Abel Hernández, que ainda não tinha se achado na partida, deslocou bem o goleiro para deixar tudo igual na Ilha do Governador.

CHANCES PERDIDAS

Após o gol do empate, o jogo diminuiu de ritmo. Dessa forma, as melhores oportunidades vieram de fora da área. E cada equipe conseguiu uma. Aos 17, Cafu tentou surpreender Marcos Felipe chutando um pouco a frente do meio campo, porém, o goleiro conseguiu boa reação e defendeu. O Tricolor, por sua vez, teve a chance com Gabriel Teixeira, que depois de arrancar em velocidade, finalizou forte, mas viu a bola subir demais sem dar sustos ao goleiro Neguete.

Nos acréscimos, contudo, a Lusa desperdiçou a principal chegada do segundo tempo. Douglas Eskilo fez jogadaça no bico direito da área, lançou com inteligência para Mauro Silva que, de primeira, emendou um lindo sem pulo. Para a sorte da torcida tricolor, em ótima fase, Marcos Felipe fez defesa impressionante e foi primordial para o Flu.

Na sequência, foi a vez de Neguete brilhar. Kayky partiu em contra-ataque e serviu bem a Caio Paulista. Assim, com agilidade o atacante dominou já trazendo para a perna boa e chutou forte, no entanto, o goleiro lusitano salvou a queima roupa e garantiu a igualdade no marcador.

واستغل مبابي عطلته حيث توجه إلى السويد، وزار إحدى الملاهي الليلية يوم الخميس الماضي.

وظهرت تقارير صحفية سويسرية، أمس، تفيد بوجود تحقيقات بشأن مزاعم وقوع حالة اغتصاب ضد سيدة، في نفس الفندق الذي تواجد به مبابي خلال عطلته.

وسارع مبابي، أمس، عبر حسابه الشخصي بموقع إكس إلى النفي رغم عدم وجود اسمه في التقارير المنشورة (لمطالعة التفاصيل من هنا).

من جانبها، لفتت شبكة “getfootballnewsfrance” الفرنسية الأنظار إلى تصرف غريب من جانب ريال مدريد، في ظل الضجة المُحاطة بـ مبابي وواقعة الاغتصاب المزعومة.

وأوضحت أن ريال مدريد حذف كيليان مبابي من أحدث حملة ترويجية، لإطلاق مجموعة “Artist Pack”، والتي تُعد خط ملابس كوسيلة لتوفير الرؤية للمشاريع الرياضية والاجتماعية لمؤسسته الخيرية للفئات غير القادرة.

وأشارت إلى أن غياب مبابي عن الصورة لم يكن ليُلاحظ، لولا أن جود بيلينجهام نشر صورة عبر حسابه الشخصي بموقع إنستجرام، لنفس الحملة وبتواجد الفرنسي، قبل أن يحذفها بعد ذلك.

وأفادت أنه في الوقت الذي زعمت فيه شبكة “Sports Zone” أن إزالة مبابي من الحملة جاء لكون شركة “نايكي” لم ترغب في وجوده في إعلان يخص منافستها “أديداس”، إلا أن الصورة شهدت وجود إدواردو كامافينجا رغم كونه تابعًا لـ”نايكي”.

وأكدت أن تلك القصة الغريبة تأتي في وقت غير مناسب بالنسبة لـ مبابي، في ظل الجدل المستمر حول واقعة الاغتصاب في السويد.
