RED BULL BRAGANTINO COMEÇA O JOGO PRESSIONANDO

CLEITON BRILHA E PEGA PÊNALTI NO FIM

Moeen Ali begins red-ball hiatus as Stiaan van Zyl leads Sussex recovery

Hamish Rutherford leads Worcestershire as Moeen ‘takes break’ from red-ball game, while Sussex recover to 150 for 5 on rain-hit day

Moeen Ali began his break from red-ball cricket as he sat out of Worcestershire’s game at Hove, as half-centuries by Stiaan van Zyl and Delray Rawlins helped Sussex recover to 150 for 5 on a rain-shortened first day.Moeen told ESPNcricinfo he was “not ruling out playing Test cricket in the future” on the eve of T20 Finals Day after he missed out on a red-ball central contract, but was not involved at Hove, as Hamish Rutherford captained in his absence.ALSO READ: Moeen Ali ‘takes break’ from red-ball cricketIn a dead rubber – that both sides might have expected to be a promotion shoot-out at the start of the season – Sussex had been 32 for 3 following an uncontested toss with openers Luke Wells and Tom Haines both dismissed for ducks. But van Zyl and Rawlins led the recovery before both departed in an afternoon session cut short by bad light.Rain arrived shortly afterwards and umpires Jerry Lloyds and Paul Baldwin abandoned play at 4pm with only 50.4 overs possible.Worcestershire’s decision to bowl first was no surprise and they struck with the third ball when Wells, playing well away from his body, was caught behind off Ed Barnard. After a short stoppage for a shower, Haines’ leading edge ended up in the hands of mid-off and Sussex were 32 for 3 when wicketkeeper Ben Cox took a superb catch diving in front of slip to remove Will Beer for seven and reward Barnard for a lively new-ball spell. But gradually conditions eased and van Zyl and Rawlins began their rebuilding job. Rawlins reigned in his attacking instincts and took Sussex past 50 with successive boundaries down the ground off Charlie Morris, while van Zyl passed 50 for the sixth time this season off 91 balls with seven boundaries. They had put on 94 for the fourth wicket when van Zyl was superbly caught diving forward at mid-on by Rutherford to give Charlie Morris his second wicket. He had faced 119 balls and hit eight fours.Rawlins was struck on the shoulder by Morris and needed more treatment a few minutes later when he pulled a ball from Brett D’Oliveira into his midriff. Rawlins drove the next ball he faced from Adam Finch for his eighth boundary but then slashed outside off stump and Daryl Mitchell clung onto a sharp chance at second slip. It was the left-hander’s third half-century of the season but, like van Zyl, he was frustrated to get out when seemingly well set.”It was nice to get some runs today and I was disappointed to get out when I did because Delray and I had put together a good partnership,” van Zyl said.”From a personal point of view, it’s been an OK season, but extremely frustrating from a team point of view. We haven’t put together enough complete batting performances as a batting unit and hopefully the guys can go into their off-season, reflect on what they need to do and be better than we were this year.”England under-19 batsman Tom Clark, who has been in Sussex’s system since he was 10 years old only had time to face one ball from Finch on his debut, a bumper which he only just evaded, before the teams came off.Moeen isn’t the only big name not involved in a game where only pride is at stake. Sussex have rested both Phil Salt, who has been carrying a finger injury for much of the second half of the season, and Chris Jordan.

Ratcliffe and Man Utd want to sign exciting ace with £25.7m release clause

Manchester United are one of a number of clubs interested in signing an exciting young player with a £25.7m release clause, according to a fresh transfer update.

Who does Sir Jim Ratcliffe want at Man Utd?

Sir Jim Ratcliffe's influence at Old Trafford is growing all the time, and he will be looking for the Red Devils to make some great signings in the summer transfer window in order for them to return to the top of English football in the future.

Girona left-back Miguel Gutierrez has emerged as a rumoured transfer target for United this summer as he continues to enjoy an impressive season for a team sitting second in La Liga, which has been one of the surprise stories of the season. He has apparently been tracked for "months" as Erik ten Hag potentially looks to sign a long-term replacement for Luke Shaw.

Highly rated Benfica centre-back Antonio Silva has also been backed to join United in the near future, with their defence needing fresh blood added to it considering Raphael Varane, Harry Maguire and Jonny Evans are all in their 30s, while Victor Lindelof reaches that milestone in July.

Ratcliffe is also thought to be weighing up the idea of sacking Ten Hag at the end of the season and bringing in an upgrade, with Brighton manager Roberto De Zerbi one of the rumoured targets for United.

Former Chelsea boss Antonio Conte has also been linked with replacing the Dutchman in the Old Trafford hot seat, having won the Premier League title with the Blues back in 2016/17.

Man Utd want Rafael Venancio

According to Globo Esporte [via Sport Witness], Manchester United are keen on signing Rafael Venancio this summer, with the teenage Corinthians defender a wanted player who has a €30m (£25.7m) release clause in his current deal.

The Red Devils are believed to have been tracking the 17-year-old for "years" and could look to "accelerate his development" by signing him soon. Chelsea are in the same boat, however, also seeing him as a great long-term option.

Venancio may be a relative unknown to many considering his age and the fact that he isn't playing in Europe, but he looks like a player who could have a massive future in the game. Granted, he is yet to actually feature for Corinthians at first-team level, but he has clearly caught the eye of United considering the length of time they have been tracking him for.

The fact that he has a release clause means that the Red Devils could simply meet the amount and get the business done seamlessly should they believe he is worth the gamble. He is contracted to Corinthians until the summer of 2026, but it looks as though United could make a bid in the coming months.

The Red Devils have tracked him for “months”.

ByHenry Jackson Mar 2, 2024

Signing exciting young players is refreshing to see, assuming this is part of Ratcliffe's approach to transfers, with United far too guilty of signing big names who are past their best in recent years, whether it be Cristiano Ronaldo, Edinson Cavani, Casemiro or Varane, to name just a few.

TalkSport pundit tells Ange to bench Tottenham star and make "top" signing

TalkSPORT pundit Gabriel Agbonlahor has surprisingly told Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou to bench an in-form star and make a "top" signing instead.

Spurs given hope in Champions League chase

West Ham did Spurs an almighty favour on Sunday with their 1-1 draw at home to Tottenham's top four rivals Aston Villa, with the north Londoners still well and truly in contention for a Champions League qualification.

"Steal" – Reporter thrilled by "no-brainer" summer signing Spurs could make

It’s very affordable.

ByEmilio Galantini Mar 15, 2024

Just three points separate Postecoglou's side in fifth and the Villans in fourth, with their goal difference proving neck-and-neck as well. Tottenham's race for fourth will be firmly in the narrative when debating the overall success of Postecoglou's first campaign in charge, but the Australian has been adamant that finishing in the top four will not define their project.

"I don't see fourth as the prize," said Postecoglou on Tottenham's European hopes.

"This club has finished fourth before. It's finished second before. You can throw all types of things at it, it's reached the Champions League final, you can throw all sorts of things but this club has achieved things. So fourth is not my end goal.

"I don't want to finish fourth if we haven't grown as a team and developed as a team. If nobody believes me then that's fine. Part of the narrative is to push you in these kind of positions where you think that fourth is some kind of achievement that gives you something for next year. It doesn't give you anything unless…fourth would be great if I feel like we're growing as a team and we're creating something that is going to bring us success next year.

"But fourth is not our goal."

Despite Postecoglou's adamance that fourth is less significant than people think, there are a few players who could prove key in their push. One of them is Timo Werner, with the German making an impressive start to life at Spurs since his loan move from RB Leipzig.

Reports suggest that Tottenham signing Werner permanently for £15 million is likely this summer, with the deal thought to contain a buy-out clause for that amount.

Ange told to drop Werner and sign "top" striker

Speaking to talkSPORT, Agbonlahor has told Postecoglou to drop Werner to the bench and sign a "top" striker this summer – despite the 28-year-old bagging two goals and two assists already.

“Spurs will make top five this season, could be in the Champions League and then in the summer they need to get some better players in," said Agbonlahor (via TBR).

“They need a top number nine, Son on the left, Kulusevski on the right. Werner and Johnson coming off the bench. They shouldn’t be starting games for Spurs in the Premier League, for me.”

Werner could feel pretty hard done by given his opening few games for Tottenham, but the club have actually been linked with a marquee centre-forward signing.

Amy Satterthwaite climbs to top of ODI batting rankings… while on maternity leave

India’s Smriti Mandhana slipped to the second spot after missing the ODI series against South Africa

If there isn’t a “World’s No. 1 Mom” mug at Amy Satterthwaite’s home, it’s time to get one. The New Zealand captain has been on maternity leave since August 2019 expecting her first child with wife and team-mate Lea Tahuhu but, due to a quirk of the ICC rankings system, she has become the world’s top-ranked batter in ODI cricket despite not playing a 50-over game in seven months. The 33-year-old had been in glorious form in 2019, scoring 346 runs in six innings, including a best of 92 against Australia.India opener Smriti Mandhana had held that position at the last update but she missed the recent three-match series against South Africa with a toe injury and has now dropped four points behind the new leader.South Africa’s young opener Laura Wolvaardt climbed six places to break into the top ten after her scores of 39, 69 and 23 against India this month. She is currently on the eighth position with 685 rating points. South Africa’s fast bowling duo of Marizanne Kapp and Shabnim Ismail also strengthened their position in the bowling chart. Kapp climbed two places and occupies the fifth spot while Ismail gained one place to move to seventh.India’s Jhulan Goswami, who failed to pick any wickets in the second ODI and didn’t play in the third, slipped four places and is currently at the sixth spot in the table headed by Australia’s left-arm spinner Jess Jonassen.Apart from picking up four wickets, Kapp also scored 94 runs in three innings that helped her jump six spots in the ODI allrounders’ rankings. She is in the second place with 370 points, but well behind Australia’s Ellyse Perry, who has 523 points.

Atacante do Joinville, Luquinhas projeta temporada e traça metas

Veja a tabela do Campeonato Catarinense

Victoria botch up chase after Aaron Finch's 119 in last-ball finish

Earlier, Callum Ferguson and Tom Cooper had helped South Australia put up a competitive score

Victoria slipped to a last-ball one-run defeat against South Australia in Melbourne despite being on top of their 323 chase until the 45th over, with Aaron Finch’s 119. They needed 39 off 31 balls when Finch fell to Adam Zampa before Kane Richardson conceded only 10 runs in his two remaining overs and Cameron Valente defended 11 in the final over. The result had no bearing on next week’s final.Jake Fraser-McGurk scored eight runs off four balls as soon as he got strike in the final over, but with three needed off the final ball, he failed to connect and only managed a leg bye.Victoria’s chase had been set up by Finch’s 21st one-day hundred and Peter Handscomb’s 87 off 75 balls after Callum Ferguson scored 122 and captain Alex Carey and Tom Cooper struck half-centuries for South Australia.Ferguson has been in stunning form of late – he came into this match on the back of scores of 127 and 91 in the competition – and continued to dominate the Victoria bowling after Carey opted to bat, his 122 coming off 128 balls. Jake Weatherald fell early, and Ferguson lost the company of Harry Nielsen in the 19th over, but added 104 runs with Carey for the third wicket to put SA on the road to a solid score. More than Ferguson, though, it was Cooper’s blitz towards the close – 76 runs came in the last four overs of the SA innings – as his 81 off 46, with five fours and seven sixes, powered them to 4 for 322.In reply, Victoria lost opener Sam Harper in the first over for a duck before Finch led the reply smartly almost till the end, with a 147-run stand for the third wicket with Handscomb. Richardson accounted for Handscomb and Matthew Short chipped in with 35 before Finch was dismissed and the chase went out of their hands.
