Today is a new beginning. Today is the day that Arne Slot gets to work as Liverpool's new head coach.

The saddening departure of Jurgen Klopp not two weeks ago, when he led his side to one final dance against Wolverhampton Wanderers in the Premier League, is still fresh in supporters' minds but hard graft must be plied over the coming months to set Anfield up for a successful start to a new era.

With Michael Edwards pulling the strings from above, Slot can focus on energising his squad and preparing for the 2024/25 campaign, but there is plenty to do on the transfer front, not least ensuring that core trio Virgil van Dijk, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Mohamed Salah – all out of contract in one year – do not leave.

However, there are further potential exits on the cards, with Barcelona's lingering interest in Luis Diaz something that could be granted on Merseyside if an apt replacement was identified.

While he might not be a left-sided wide forward by default, Liverpool are looking to sign a talented Premier League star and could make their move if certain cards come into play in the coming weeks and months.

According to L'Equipe, Liverpool are indeed on the prowl for a new wide forward and have focussed their efforts on Brentford's Bryan Mbeumo, aged 24, with the French-born ace ready to take the next step in his career.

The Bees would demand a fee in excess of £50m for Mbeumo, who has played a starring role in keeping the club in the English top flight for three successive seasons, though a deal is complicated by interest in his strike partner Ivan Toney.

Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur are also interested, though Slot will hope that his team's exciting project and allure of Champions League football will put Liverpool in the driving seat.

Unfortunately, Mbeumo's incredible start to the season was stifled by injury in December, with the 5 foot 7 whiz missing three months through the middle period of the campaign after injuring his ankle and requiring surgery.

The 11-cap Cameroon international, who opted to play for the African nation due to familial ties, had fired his way into form during the opening months of the 2023/24 season, scoring seven goals and supplying three assists across 15 games before his mishap.

The Athletic's Jay Harris had even remarked that he “cannot be stopped” during this Midas-touching period. Let's not forget, supreme goalscorer Toney was suspended until January but this did not stop Mbeumo from succeeding, perhaps even allowing him to showcase his talismanic ability to a greater level.

As per Sofascore, Mbeumo scored nine goals and provided six assists from only 22 starting roles in the Premier League, creating six big chances and averaging 1.3 key passes, one dribble, 4.2 successful duels and 3.7 ball recoveries per game.

Not just a goalscorer, Mbeumo possesses creative, ball-progressing and defensive skills that make him a fearsome weapon in the Premier League, ranking among the top 10% of forwards across Europe's top five leagues over the past year for assists and shot-creating actions, the top 5% for passes attempted, the top 7% for progressive passes and progressive carries and the top 5% for blocks per 90, as per FBref.

Mbeumo's FBref metrics underscore a roundedness and dynamism in his approach play that enhances his team and puts him above that of just 'goalscorer'. Instead, this is a player with far-reaching skills that would make him a tailor-made addition to Liverpool.

Moreover, this is illustrated through the £45k-per-week star's influence when performing, making Brentford a far better, more fluid and more effective unit. It's no wonder that Thomas Frank has hailed him as "very sharp".

Why Bryan Mbeumo would star at Liverpool

Slot's system, while not yet implemented on the Anfield pitch, is likely to demonstrate a fast-flowing, possession-based blend, with Dutch reporter Marcel van der Kraan recently praising the "crazy, sexy style".

A semblance of high-octane football can be found in Slot's system, but he is not a carbon copy of his Liverpool predecessor and his focus on control is something that makes Mbeumo such an interesting prospective arrival, with the Brentford man's aforementioned ball skills perfectly placed for success on the right flank, or upfront.

His technical prowess and the fact that he could be signed, aged 24, from a Premier League rival performing lower down the table – Brentford finished 16th this season – could make him Slot's own version of Sadio Mane, with the Senegalese forward instrumental in kickstarting Klopp's reign.

Firstly, Mane's positional versatility made him an invaluable striker for Liverpool, and so too is Mbeumo free of the shackles of tactical inflexibility, scoring four goals and adding one assist from nine matches from centre-forward this season but clinching five goals and five assists apiece from 14 matches on the right.

Furthermore, Mane's goalscoring ability made him the perfect fit after signing from Southampton in a £34m deal in 2016, posting 120 strikes from 269 appearances for the Reds.

It looks increasingly likely that India’s upcoming domestic season – which doesn’t have a start date yet – could extend until June next year, with the BCCI’s attempts to host the Ranji Trophy “a priority” and “at least one major tournament for women and at every age-group level” on the cards.”We are trying to get as much of the domestic season in as possible. It’s obviously impossible to start right away, and there’s also the matter of the IPL going to UAE. But we are trying to get a schedule in place,” a board official told ESPNcricinfo. “We will not be able to have everything this year, and we will only be able to start in November maybe. But the idea is to have a priority list of tournaments, and the Ranji Trophy is right on top of that list.”Whether we hold it in its current form or a truncated version, we don’t know yet. We don’t even know how much of a window we will have. That will depend on when we can start and till when we can go on, if we have the next IPL on schedule in April-May.”A total of 2036 games, across various age groups in the men’s and women’s categories, were played during the 2019-20 season. ووفقاً لما أعلنه فيفا، ستقام البطولة في كل من المغرب وإسبانيا والبرتغال، فيما ستقام أول ثلاث مباريات في أوروجواي والأرجنتين وباراجواي، للاحتفال بالذكرى المئوية للبطولة.

Romelu Lukaku, Armando Broja, Conor Gallagher, Trevoh Chalobah, Malang Sarr and even Raheem Sterling in parts have been mentioned as players who could leave Chelsea in the summer transfer window.

Boehly will be especially keen to rid the club of Lukaku's reported £325,000-per-week wages, with the Belgian proving to be one of Chelsea's biggest transfer flops of recent memory. Lukaku is thought to be attracting Saudi interest after a semi-successful loan spell at Roma last season, while there have been rumours that Sterling could be used as a makeweight in Chelsea deals for key targets.

Gallagher would be the least popular sale of the bunch, but his contract situation (expiring in 2025) means Chelsea may have to make the ruthless decision to sell him on.

A far more easy call, though, would be finding a permanent buyer for £72 million signing Kepa Arrizabalaga – who spent last season on loan at Real Madrid.

Arrizabalaga set for Maresca talks as he eyes Chelsea exit

The Spaniard, according to London World and journalist Rahman Osman, has his eyes on the exit door this summer. It is believed that Arrizabalaga really wants to leave Chelsea and is set for talks with Maresca over his future in the next few days. The Blues, for their part, are happy to sell him given his contract expires in 2025.

The 29-year-old would only be happy to stay if he's guaranteed a chance to fight for his place, but that appears unlikely given Chelsea's reported pursuit of a new keeper and Maresca's admiration for Robert Sanchez.

“It’s not only about the penalty save but it’s also about the performance, it was a very good performance,” said former Chelsea assistant coach Arno Michels after Arrizabalaga's penalty heroics in an FA Cup clash with Plymouth in 2022.

In turn, big things could be expected at Anfield this summer with improvements across the pitch needed at Liverpool. While no signings have been made just yet, the Premier League giants have already been linked with a plethora of names in various positions.

Recent reports have suggested that Newcastle United’s Yankuba Minteh, who spent last season on loan at Slot's Feyenoord, is a target for Liverpool, with the Magpies potentially needing to sell to keep in line with the PSR guidelines. The Merseysiders have also received a big boost in their long-time pursuit of Atalanta midfielder Teun Koopemeiners as they look to freshen up their midfield once more this summer.

Elsewhere, Slot is said to be interested in making Sporting defender Goncalo Inacio his first signing as Liverpool manager, with the Anfield side first putting in work to sign the Portuguese during last year's transfer window.

Liverpool approach club to sign new £50m+ player

Now, a new name has been linked with a move to Anfield this summer. The player in question is Takefusa Kubo, who is currently plying his trade with Real Sociedad. The 23-year-old winger made the move to Spain with Real Madrid in 2019 and was backed to succeed by his fellow countryman, Shinji Kagwa. Speaking to Marca in 2019, Kagaw hailed Kubo as a "very good player" who is "very intelligent".

“He’s a very good player,” said Kagawa. “He already speaks Spanish because he was at the Barcelona academy for a bit and this is helping him a lot now. I think he can play well for Real Madrid. He has a very good chance [of succeeding in Spain]. He’s left-footed and very intelligent on the pitch. He always makes the right decision at the right time."

The winger, who is currently under contract in Spain until 2029, is now garnering interest from several top clubs in England. Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo [via Sport Witness] claim that five Premier League sides, including Liverpool, have made contact to ask about the availability of the Japan international.

Two of the interested teams are not named in the report, but both Manchester United and Tottenham are, with the La Liga side reportedly wanting €60m (£50.7m) for the winger's services, making this one to watch.
