It heralded a testing spell from the Indian, but Read survived to complete his third century of the season by driving Woakes to the mid-wicket boundary for his 16th boundary of his 132nd ball faced.Read ultimately lost his middle stump to Tahir, who finished with four for 89, but not before an eighth-wicket stand with Andre Adams had added 58 to the 84 put on with Ealham for the seventh as Nottinghamshire built towards a final total of 388 from 84.1 overs.Westwood and Botha, opening in place of Tony Frost, who was left out of the side, then negotiated nine overs without alarm.

Manchester United could still appoint current Leicester City manager Brendan Rodgers as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s successor this season, according to journalist Dean Jones.

What’s the story?

The Northern Irishman is believed to be high up on the United hierarchy’s wishlist as they line up possible replacements for Solskjaer following their disappointing start to the campaign.

Several reports have claimed that Rodgers is the leading candidate to take over the Old Trafford hot seat, but it seems as though the Glazers will keep faith with their Norwegian tactician for the time being.

However, transfer insider Jones has refused to rule out Solskjaer being replaced by the 48-year-old before the campaign comes to a close amid mounting pressure.

He told GIVEMESPORT: “I wouldn’t rule it out later in the season somewhere if United can’t ride this out. It seems strange but it is definitely plausible from what I’m hearing.”

News that Rodgers could take the reins at United over the coming months will leave a large section of the club’s supporters feeling excited.

The former Celtic boss has cultivated an enviable reputation as one of British football’s most astute and innovative tacticians in recent years, guiding the Hoops to seven major trophies in just two-and-a-half years.

He then continued to prove his credentials at the King Power Stadium, guiding the Foxes to consecutive fifth-place finishes in the Premier League before claiming the FA Cup and Community Shield.

Solskjaer, on the other hand, is yet to find a piece of silverware during his tenure with the Red Devils, overseeing an agonising trophy drought for the 20-time English champions.

The Scandinavian’s good work should not be forgotten, though. Consecutive top-four finishes for the first time since Sir Alex Ferguson retired, a successful squad rebuild, and the blooding of several academy graduates have all marked his tenure.

However, concerns over whether Solskjaer is capable of taking United to the next step in their development and competing with the likes of Chelsea, Manchester City and Liverpool for major honours are ever-increasing.

A ceiling appears to have been reached under his tutelage, and therefore, Rodgers’ arrival would be welcomed by many in United’s fanbase.

Atual presidente do Vasco, Eurico Miranda promoveu na noite desta quinta-feira, na Tijuca, Zona Norte do Rio de Janeiro, o evento de lançamento de sua candidatura para a tentativa de reeleição no cargo. Com o nome de “Reconstruindo o Vasco”, a chapa contou com o apoio de cerca de 500 pessoas durante o evento. Cerca de 40 minutos após o encerramento, foram registradas brigas entre vascaínos na rua da casa onde recebeu a convenção. A eleição que determinará quem comandará o Cruz-Maltino no triênio 2018-2020 está marcada para o dia 7 de novembro. Eurico Miranda pediu votos aos presentes.

– A eleição não está ganha. Eleição se ganha no dia, depois da apuração. A eleição não está ganha. Tirar de mim os beneméritos é difícil. Quero ver eles juntarem. Tem os que são contra o Eurico, mas é número reduzido. Vocês têm de fazer militância. Dizer um a um para votar – afirmou, fazendo questão de falar nome a nome de todos os sócios beneméritos presentes, responsáveis por decidir a Diretoria Administrativa (o qual define o presidente) depois da eleição geral por conta de o Vasco ter um sistema de voto indireto em seus pleitos.

Eurico Miranda aproveitou o evento – que durou cerca de duas horas – para apontar o apoio que recebeu de Antonio Peralta em sua candidatura. Peralta, vale lembrar, foi vice-presidente geral da gestão anterior a de Eurico, comandada por Roberto Dinamite. Um vídeo, inclusive, foi apresentado por cinco minutos (assista abaixo) sobre a campanha de Eurico e em um momento a imagem de Dinamite apareceu, oportunidade que recebeu vaias de todo o salão. Eurico Miranda também foi aplaudido ao dizer que “o Flamengo treme quando enfrenta o Vasco” e que o “Vasco também foi fundado para ganhar do Flamengo”.

Em todo instante, as pessoas que estavam no evento em apoio a Eurico Miranda fizeram coros de “Fica, Eurico”. Propostas não foram apresentadas de forma específica. O atual mandatário do Vasco, durante seu discurso, comentou sobre as negociações com as emissoras de televisão para os direitos de transmissão dos jogos do Vasco, reafirmou que o clube tem “resistência” como sinônimo e fez ataques a TV Globo e ao Ministério Público, se defendendo da denúncia oferecida nesta quinta.

– Essa barbaridade que inventaram hoje. Esse procuradorzinho é outro recalcado em relação ao Vasco. A tentativa foi esvaziar o meu lançamento da candidatura. Não conseguiram. حسم المدير الفني للفريق الأول لكرة القدم بنادي مانشستر يونايتد، إريك تين هاج، مستقبل كريستيانو رونالدو مع شائعات كثيرة حول مستقبل البرتغالي قبل ساعات من غلق الميركاتو الصيفي.

وارتبط رونالدو بالعديد من الأندية الأوروبية، حيث يرغب البرتغالي في الرحيل نظرًا لعدم استقرار مانشستر يونايتد بالإضافة إلى عدم مشاركته في بطولة دوري أبطال أوروبا.

وتحدث تين هاج عن مستقبل رونالدو في مؤتمره الصحفي قبل مباراة ليستر سيتي، وقال: “الأمر واضح بالنسبة لنا، كريستيانو ضمن خططنا، نحن بحاجة إلى لاعبين جيدين، أنت بحاجة لهم لأن هناك مباريات عديدة في الموسم ويجب علينا الحفاظ على أسلوبنا”.

وعن موقف وان بيساكا من الرحيل بعد شائعات صفقة تبادلية مع برشلونة، رد الهولندي: “آرون سيبقى مع مانشستر يونايتد، الفريق الحالي هو من سيخوض الفترة من سبتمبر حتى يناير على الأقل”.

وبسؤاله “هل مانشستر يونايتد قد اكتفى من الصفقات في الميركاتو الصيفي؟”، أجاب: “أعتقد أنه مع تعاقدنا مع دوبرافكا ستكون نهاية تحركاتنا في هذا السوق، لكن إذا كانت لدينا فرصة للتعاقد مع لاعب مميز، سنتحرك لذلك يجب أن نكون متيقظين”.

وصفقة أنتوني: “هناك اتفاق بين مانشستر يونايتد وأياكس ولكن لم توقع العقود، لذلك لن أتحدث ولكننا ما زلنا بحاجة إلى تعزيز خط الهجوم لأن لدينا العديد من المباريات”.

وتابع: “لن يكون أنتوني متاحًا لنا أمام ليستر سيتي ولكن أتمنى أن يكون موجودًا في مباراة الجولة المقبلة (أمام آرسنال)”.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, journalist Dean Jones of Eurosport has made a rather promising claim involving Tottenham Hotspur and Lautaro Martinez.

The Lowdown: Spurs dealt Martinez summer blow…

As reliably reported, Spurs were well in the mix to sign the Inter Milan striker even before new manager Antonio Conte’s highly-anticipated arrival in north London.

Indeed, managing director Fabio Paratici had his sights set on the Argentine at one point in the summer window and The Times even revealed that a £60m fee had been agreed with Inter.

However, in a twist to the tale, London rivals Chelsea played a heavy hand in Tottenham’s failed swoop for Martinez thanks to their capture of Belgium superstar Romelu Lukaku.

Fabrizio Romano explained that the 28-year-old’s move to Stamford Bridge prompted Inter’s reluctance to agree a deal with Spurs over Martinez, especially considering that they would have been left without a marquee centre-forward (Twitter).

The Argentina striker duly ended up putting pen to paper on a new deal at the San Siro instead, which reportedly earning him around £179,000 per week.

The Latest: Spurs could now return…

You’d think that would be the end of Tottenham’s interest, but Jones has now come out with another twist to the tale.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, he believes that Spurs under Conte will return for another attempt in the winter window, explaining:

“”I’m told Lautaro Martinez is someone they’re going to look back towards again in January.”

The Verdict: Exciting…

Given their links to Fiorentina hotshot Dusan Vlahovic, with there even being talk of a meeting held in London already, this claim on an alternative star striker target is certainly exciting.

Going by Martinez’s pedigree, he is a player who would significantly bolster Conte’s options at Spurs and could partner star striker Harry Kane to devastating effect – or maybe even replace him.

According to WhoScored, the 24-year-old has scored more goals in Serie A this season than anyone for Tottenham in the Premier League, racking up a higher average of attempts per 90 in that time also.

The South American has also attracted praise from some the very best strikers in world football, including former Inter teammate Lukaku, who called Martinez a ‘beast’ on Instagram Live (via Daily Mail).

However, one major hiccup to this Spurs transfer plan may be costs, especially considering that the Argentina international is valued at around £72m by Transfermarkt.

Paratici and co will need to smash the club’s transfer record to get a deal done, but going by his age, calibre and quality, Martinez may well be worth the investment.
