Liverpool are among a host of top clubs still interested in signing Fiorentina sensation Dusan Vlahovic, according to a report which has emerged.

The Lowdown: Vlahovic shining for Fiorentina

The 21-year-old is arguably one of Europe’s most exciting young attacking players currently, having caught the eye hugely in Italy.

Vlahovic has scored has scored 10 goals in just 13 Serie A appearances for Fiorentina this season – only one league goal fewer than Mohamed Salah in 2021/22 – taking his overall tally for the club to 41 in 98 matches.

It looks as though one of Europe’s top clubs will snap up the Serbian eventually, and Liverpool look set to be in the race to sign him.

Vlahovic seems to not only be an incredible long-term prospect but also someone who could immediately become a key performer for Liverpool, having been hailed as ‘incredible’ by Italian football expert Conor Clancy.

With Roberto Firmino now 30 years of age, and Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane both 29, the Reds’ attack will need freshening up at some point in the foreseeable future.

Vlahovic could be the man to lead the line for years to come, with the youngster averaging one key pass, 2.2 headers won and 1.1 dribbles per game in Serie A this season, showing his all-round effectiveness as a striker in addition to his Salah-esque scoring return.

India have crashed out early from a second ICC tournament in less than four months after being one of the favourites to win, leaving the captain MS Dhoni wondering where the campaign unravelled. Australia pipped Pakistan in a last-ball thriller in the day game in Centurion, making India’s match against West Indies a dead rubber, which India went on to win convincingly by seven wickets.”I do feel disappointed but frankly speaking I find it difficult to say if we were up for this tournament or not,” Dhoni said. “We were off the boil against Pakistan and we lost. Then we had a washout and we won the match against West Indies. I can’t say if our performance was bad.”After winning the Compaq Cup in Colombo earlier this month, Dhoni had said the bowling and fielding needed to improve but the two departments weren’t at their best in Champions Trophy. “We will reflect on how our bowlers bowled with too much width and how much work we need to put into our fielding department. That needs some work but these things are not going to change overnight. We have to put in much more effort.”One of the bright spots for India was Virat Kohli’s mature batting against West Indies; he was the only batsman to make a half-century in the match, finishing on an unbeaten 79. Kohli batted at No. 4 on Wednesday, and in his short career has already opened the innings and also played at No. 7. “I am happy to bat up or down the order as the team needs. That’s according to a claim made by Luke Hatfield, with the Express & Star journalist revealing in a recent interview with GIVEMESPORT that, amid Aston Villa’s links with a move for the River Plate centre-forward, Gerrard and the transfer team at Villa Park are indeed keeping a very close eye on the 21-year-old ahead of a potential January swoop.

New Manchester United manager Ralf Rangnick has been settling into life at Old Trafford and will have been spending his time trying to find solutions to the problems which have been ongoing at the club over the last few years.

United currently sit sixth in the league, with only two wins from their last five in the division, a rate which will need to be improved upon if they want to be in contention for a Champions League spot at the end of the season.

Rangnick has already displayed heavy rotation during his two games in charge so far, which will give the German a fair idea of which areas need work and where he can add quality in the upcoming transfer window.

One area of the United team which has been constantly criticised and heavily reported upon is the midfield.

The lack of a trustworthy defensive midfielder has been a constant theme in this Red Devils side, but it’s a problem to which Rangnick may already have the solution with a player he has coached in the past.

Tyler Adams, who currently plays for RB Leipzig, has been speculated to be in for a move to Old Trafford in January to help the 63-year-old establish a good start in his interim reign as Manchester United manager.

Rangnick, who worked with Adams at Leipzig when he was doubling up duties as first team coach and sporting director, called the 22-year-old “unbelievable” and compared him to Joshua Kimmich.

“Like Joshua, Tyler has an unbelievable will to win. He wants to win every match and every training game. He wants to improve and listens. He’s never satisfied. The sky is the limit,” the United boss told Bundesliga.com.

The Red Devils’ hunt for a new defensive midfielder has been long-awaited and it was thought that this would’ve happened in the summer under Ole Gunnar Solksjaer. For whatever reason, the position was not strengthened, but now Rangnick could bring in the perfect man for the job with the £18m-rated American gem.

It may just be the missing piece which could take Manchester United back to where they belong, inside the top four, especially when combining Adams experience in defensive midfield with Bruno Fernandes’ creative flair. Together they could be quite the force and build a working partnership which glues together the defence and the forward line perfectly.

Out of holding midfielder, which means he could offer United a lot of experience in the role. Also, after working with Rangnick, he should not struggle to understand the German’s vision and ways of working, comfortably integrating into the team.

Rangnick should work fast to secure the signing of the 20-year-old, ensuring that the Red Devils can go into the second half of the season full of confidence, with strong options in every position.
