Nottinghamshire forced to battle

Title-chasing Nottinghamshire were facing the prospect of conceding a first-innings deficit in their clash with reigning County Championship Division One winners Durham following a closely-fought second day

Title-chasing Nottinghamshire were facing the prospect of conceding a first-innings deficit in their clash with reigning County Championship Division One winners Durham following a closely-fought second day.Nottinghamshire started the day well as they removed the hosts’ final four wickets for the addition of 10 runs to bowl Durham out for 372. In reply half-centuries from by skipper Chris Read and Ali Brown, plus 48 from Australian Adam Voges, helped Nottinghamshire to 257 for 6 by the close. That meant they took three points from the day’s play – one for bowling and two for batting – as they continue to edge cautiously towards the title. Nottinghamshire now boast a lead of 21 points over second-placed Somerset, but will still be hoping to avoid defeat at Chester-le-Street with two tough matches to finish the campaign against Yorkshire and Lancashire. With that in mind the visitors will be hoping their tail can add some valuable runs on day three with their deficit still 115 runs with four wickets in hand. Durham’s hopes of running through the tail could rest on whether Mark Davies will return to the attack after he failed to bowl in the evening session. In his fifth championship appearance either side of a three-month break following a second ankle operation, Davies took the remarkable figures of 2 for 10 from 15 overs. Earlier, Durham lost their remaining four wickets for 10 runs, with Scott Borthwick last out for a career-best 68 when he pulled a catch to deep mid-wicket to give Andre Adams his fifth wicket.Borthwick clipped the first ball of the day, from Ryan Sidebottom, behind square leg for four to earn Durham’s fourth batting point. For the maximum of five they still had 13 overs to score the extra 50 runs, but Phil Mustard looked in too much of a hurry when he drove at Sidebottom and edged to Read after adding three singles to his overnight 117.Liam Plunkett edged the next ball to the wicketkeeper and Read held his third catch in two overs when Mitch Claydon edged a drive at Adams.Nottinghamshire’s struggles to find a settled opening pair saw them promote Samit Patel, but after turning Claydon to fine leg for four he shaped to play through midwicket and got a leading edge to mid-off in the first over.In the continued absence of Steve Harmison, Davies shared the new ball and struck in his sixth over. He had already beaten the bat several times when Alex Hales pushed forward and edged to wicketkeeper Mustard. Hales and Mark Wagh put on 48 in 21 overs before Plunkett settled down after a wayward start and skidded one through to bowl Wagh for 30.At 71 for 3 Nottinghamshire were looking slightly rocky, but Brown and Voges put on 75 before Davies pinned the Australian lbw. Brown fell for 52 when he drove leg-spinner Borthwick to mid-off and two overs from the close Read departed for 56 when he tried to pull Plunkett and gloved a leg-side catch to Mustard.Sidebottom went in as nightwatchman and will be replaced at the crease by Darren Pattinson as the left-armer had to depart to join up with the England Twenty20 squad.

Leeds: Bournemouth make Cody Drameh approach

Bournemouth have reportedly made an approach to sign Leeds United right-back Cody Drameh this summer.

The Lowdown: Drameh at Cardiff

The Leeds youngster decided to head out on loan during the January window, joining Championship side Cardiff City until the end of the season.

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/latest-leeds-united-news-42/” title=”Latest Leeds United news!” poster=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/04/cropped-2022-03-10T184055Z_1834933207_UP1EI3A1FW561_RTRMADP_3_SOCCER-ENGLAND-LEE-AVA-REPORT-1-scaled-1.jpg” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

Drameh has become a regular for The Bluebirds, making 18 consecutive starts following his move to Wales.

The 20-year-old, who’s positioning was labelled as ‘awful’ by Ian Wright against Arsenal back in December, now appears to be catching the eye elsewhere following his spell in the second tier.

The Latest: Bournemouth approach

According to Wales Online, Bournemouth have made an approach over a move for Drameh, outlining how much they’d be willing to offer when it comes to wages.

The report adds that Leeds look likely to assess the full-back in pre-season, with Drameh open to the idea of another exit if he isn’t guaranteed minutes under Jesse Marsch.

The Verdict: Tricky…

Drameh will be entering the final two years of his contract in the summer, and it looks as if Andrea Radrizzani, the 49ers group, Victor Orta and Marsch will have another difficult call to make on the youngster over the coming months.

We have already seen that Drameh is willing to force his way out of Elland Road, and another temporary deal away could suit all involved.

Bournemouth could well be a destination, and it looks as if they are going to earn promotion back to the Premier League. Therefore, if regular minutes can be guaranteed, then the south coast could be the perfect place for Drameh ahead of a potential breakthrough into the Leeds side in 2023/24.

Dhoni tips Tiwary to make debut in series

Saurabh Tiwary will make his ODI debut during the three-match series between India and Australia, India captain MS Dhoni has said.

MS Dhoni thinks Saurabh Tiwary can be successful in international cricket with the proper guidance•Indian Premier League

Saurabh Tiwary, the middle-order batsman who played for Mumbai Indians, will make his ODI debut during the three-match series against Australia that starts in Kochi on Sunday, India captain MS Dhoni has said. Tiwary has been part of India’s one-day squad since June and Dhoni said the time has come to give him the opportunity to prove himself.”He has got exposure against the best bowlers in the IPL and CL T20. I think it is an ideal opportunity for us to give him a place in the final XI and let him play the kind of cricket he plays.”Dhoni said Tiwary was ideally suited to bat at six or seven, where he could go after the bowlers. “He backs himself and he is hard working and spends his time at net sessions. He is good character to have. With proper guidance and with little more exposure to international cricket, he can be really successful.”Tiwary, 20, served notice in the 2009 Ranji Trophy, where he scored three centuries in five games at an average of 98.83 for Jharkhand in the Plate League. During the third season of the IPL he emerged as the poster-boy of Mumbai’s young and dynamic middle-order, hitting 419 runs with three fifties as his team made the finals of the tournament. When Tiwary does make his debut, he will be only the second cricketer from the central Indian state of Jharkhand to play for India, after Dhoni. “It is slightly tougher for a player to come from a small state and represent your country,” Dhoni said. “It is not a restriction anymore because most of cricket played in India is covered by media in a beautiful manner and selectors will notice.”Dhoni confirmed that M Vijay will open the innings in the absence of Sachin Tendulkar, Virender Sehwag and Gautam Gambhir, but was non-committal on whether Yuvraj Singh would play, saying “you will have to wait and watch”. It is unlikely that Yuvraj will be left out though, as India is already missing three of their senior-most batsmen.Allrounder Ravindra Jadeja, who has received plenty of support from Dhoni in the past, however, needs to perform better if he is to cement his place in the team for the World Cup. Dhoni said a few places are still up for grabs, including one for a fast bowler and another for either an allrounder or a big-hitting lower-order batsman.”When he [Jadeja] came to the side, he was more of a batsman than a bowler. But in the last few seasons he has really done well with the ball. He has not so far contributed well with the bat. For a player like him, he has to contribute with both.”More often than not, we tend to play with four bowlers and one part-timer who can contribute. We still want to keep it the same – with that someone coming down the order at No. 7.”Australia has won every one-day series in India since 1998, but both sides are without some of their first-choice players and Australia captain Michael Clarke expects an even contest. “I think the opposition we are playing is very tough, especially in Indian conditions, but I am confident that if we play to our best, we will win the series. As I said earlier this series is going to be fought evenly.”

É time pequeno – declarou.

Nesta terça, ele volta a treinar e define o time que iniciará o jogo.

Saxena century gives Rajasthan upper hand

A round-up of the second day of the second round of matches in the Plate League of the Ranji Trophy

ESPNcricinfo staff11-Nov-2010Group AVineet Saxena and Hrishikesh Kanitkar added 161 runs in 56.1 overs to give Rajasthan the first-innings lead against Goa on a rain-reduced second day at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur. Resuming at 48 for 1, the pair frustrated Goa through most of the day’s play before Kanitkar fell for 73 off 185 balls. Saxena completed his seventh first-class ton by stumps and, along with Robin Bist, guided his side into a dominant position.TP Sudhindra scalped four wickets as Madhya Pradesh bowled Tripura out for 255 before galloping to 225 for 3 by stumps on the second day at the Holkar Cricket Stadium in Indore. Sudhindra picked up all the four Tripura wickets to fall in the morning before MP openers Naman Ojha and Jalaj Saxena set about the task of securing the first-innings lead in aggressive fashion. Naman brought up his third first-class ton, an innings that included 14 fours and two sixes, but Saxena fell ten short of the landmark. The pair added 209 in 43.5 overs before exiting in quick succession. Devendra Bundela also fell soon after as Tripura’s spirits rose before stumps.Hyderabad’s decision to drop four senior players for Under-22 cricketers paid dividend as the 18-year-old Bavanaka Sandeep scored 130 on his first-class debut to give them a 149-run first-innings lead with 5 wickets in hand against Jharkhand at the HEC International Cricket Stadium Complex in Ranchi. Fast bowler Kuldeep Sharma gave Jharkhand a good start to the day, taking 3 for 50 to reduce Hyderabad to 117 for 4. But Sandeep put together a 109-run partnership with Syed Quadri who made 50, and an unbeaten 129-run stand with wicket-keeper batsman Ibrahim Khaleel (47 off 114) to put Hyderabad firmly in the ascendancy with two days to go.Group BRain helped Jammu & Kashmir keep Kerala’s lead down to just 11 runs at the Perintalmanna Cricket Stadium in Malappuram, but the hosts are sitting pretty with nine wickets in hand. Opener VA Jagadeesh (98 off 147) and Robert Fernandez (65 off 151) made full use of the 50 overs of play that were possible on the second day after Abid Nabi dismissed Abhishek Hegde early. J&K only managed 173 in their first innings and will hope for more showers to stave of defeat.A fighting 82 from No. 7 batsman Ranjit Paradkar helped Vidarbha reach 281 for 8 in their first innings against Maharashtra at the Golf Club Ground in Nasik. Vidarbha started the day at 42 for 3, after just 13 overs were bowled on day one, and were tottering at 169 for 6 when Azhar Sheik fell after a patient half-century. Paradkar and Shrikant Wagh then added 96 to rescue their side. It was a team effort by Maharashtra in the field as their four frontline bowlers took two wickets apiece.Services were locked in an even battle for the first-innings lead against Andhra at the Rural Development Trust Stadium in Anantapur. Resuming at 23 for 1 and chasing Andhra’s score of 229, Services were propelled by Sowmyaranjan Swain’s compoised 71 off 185 balls. He added 71 with Yashpal Singh before wickets began to tumble. Seamer Doddapaneni Kalyankrishna picked up three wickets while Y Gyaneswara Rao finished with two as Services stumbled to 187 for 7. They need 43 runs to secure the first-innings lead but, given the low-scoring nature of the game so far, an outright result could be on the cards.

Spurs may sell ‘important’ Conte favourite

Tottenham Hotspur could also sell an ‘important’ player who manager Antonio Conte ‘raves about’, according to journalist Alasdair Gold.

The Lowdown: Lilywhites exodus?

This upcoming Spurs transfer window looks set to be the most interesting one in quite some time.

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/tottenham-newest-updates/” title=”Tottenham newest updates…” poster=”” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

Lilywhites transfer chief Fabio Paratici and chairman Daniel Levy, tasked with backing Conte ahead of the 2022/2023 Premier League season, are reportedly going to sit down with the Italian as he eyes six major signings (The Telegraph).

However, amid their financial complications off the pitch, with club debt mounting to around £706 million, it is imperative that the club offload surplus players to balance the books and bolster Conte’s transfer kitty.

Their homegrown quota also presents a complication with reliable journalist Matt Law recently claiming that, if Spurs want to sign an overseas forward this summer, one of Steven Bergwijn or Lucas Moura may have to be offloaded.

The Latest: Gold backs possible Bergwijn exit…

Writing for football.london in the last 24 hours, another credible source in Tottenham correspondent Gold has now backed that Bergwijn could also leave north London amid consistent exit links surrounding other players.

This is despite the fact Conte ‘raves about’ his Dutch winger, even calling him an ‘important’ player, with Gold adding that Bergwijn is unlikely to want to stay for 22/23 amid his lack of minutes.

The Verdict: Stick or twist?

The Netherlands international has proven to be a useful option for Conte over this campaign.

His added time brace to clinch a dramatic 3-2 win at Leicester City in late January is evidence of the player’s impact and quality when given an opportunity, and could even be the moment that secures Champions League football come the end of the campaign.

Bergwijn’s versatility as an attacking outlet from the wide positions and further forward is another incentive for Spurs to keep hold of the former PSV Eindhoven star.

Despite his quality, though, a mooted move back to the Eredivisie with footballing giants Ajax could be too enticing to ignore – and if the 24-year-old pushes for a move – Spurs may well need to consider a sale depending on their possible offer.
