Harbhajan Singh, who shared a famous rivalry with Ricky Ponting, has described the former Australia captain as “one of the top five” batsmen he has bowled against. Harbhajan, who dismissed Ponting the most number of times – 10 in 14 Tests – said not only the Australian players but even opponents respected him a lot because of his aura.”Ponting will be in my top five Test batsmen ever against whom I played,” Harbhajan said. “He was the kind of cricketer who could win matches on his own. An outstanding fielder, his body language throughout his career is something we all look up to. He brought so much passion and enthusiasm to the field each time he walked in. That earned him command as a leader and a lot of respect for what he has achieved.”Ponting might have been the best Australia batsman of his generation, but his record in India was far from sparkling and a big reason was his struggle to succeed against Harbhajan. Ponting, who featured in six tours in India between 1996 and 2010, averaged 26.48 in the country, with 662 runs in 25 innings with just one century in Bangalore in 2008. In the memorable 2001 Test series, Harbhajan captured Ponting in each of the three Tests in which the batsman managed just 17 runs in five innings.According to Harbhajan, the problem could have been more mental than technical. “Before that 2001 Border-Gavaskar Trophy where I got him in all the three Tests, I had got the better of Ponting in the first warm-up match when he went for a drive and was caught at short mid-wicket. Wherever, whenever we played, I managed to get his wicket by bowling decent balls. I feel when you get out to one particular bowler, it plays on the batsman’s mind regardless of the pitch conditions.”Harbhajan admitted the relationship between him and Ponting never changed from the adversarial one which was established first in the 1998 tri-series in Sharjah involving India, Australia and New Zealand. Harbhajan, playing in his debut series, had been hit for a couple of sixes by Ponting. But the offspinner bounced back by deceiving Ponting in the air and got him stumped. Ponting, unimpressed by Harbhajan’s send-off gesture, reacted aggressively. Both men were fined by the match referee with Harbhajan missing the next game. It was the beginning of a long-standing rivalry which reached its peak during the Monkeygate incident on India’s 2007-08 tour of Australia when Ponting was captain. However, Harbhajan said he held no grudges against Ponting.”Me and Ricky were never friends, but I have a lot of respect for him and for what he has done for cricket,” Harbhajan said.

وتعرض البرازيلي لإصابة بعد تدخل عليه، ولم يستكمل اللقاء حيث طالب بالتغيير، وقام أنشيلوتي باستبداله بالفعل ودفع بداني كارفاخال بديلًا له في الدقيقة 82.

وقال أنشيلوتي في تصريحات لـ “DAZN”، عن حالة فينيسيوس عقب المباراة: “لقد أصيب بضربة في ركبته، لكن لا شيء خطير، أعتقد أنه سيتعافى بشكل جيد في غضون يومين، لقد تم إيقافه في المباراة التالية وسيكون بخير من أجل نهائي الكأس”.

وقد تلقى فينيسيوس بطاقة صفراء وسيغيب للإيقاف، عن مباراة ريال مدريد القادمة أمام ريال سوسيداد، المقرر خوضها الثلاثاء المقبل.

وعلّق أنشيلوتي على البطاقة الصفراء لفينيسيوس، مضيفًا: “الحقيقة هي أنه يحتج، الحقيقة هي أن لديه 10 بطاقات صفراء وهناك عدد أقل بكثير يمنح لمنافسيه”.

وسيلاقي ريال مدريد، إسبانيول في نهائي كأس ملك إسبانيا، وذلك يوم السبت المقبل، والموافق 6 مايو القادم.

Brett Lee has called on Cricket New South Wales to sack the chief executive David Gilbert after the board fired the head coach Anthony Stuart during the week. Lee, who plays for the Sydney Sixers but is no longer a New South Wales state player, said Stuart, who was appointed as head coach in mid-2011, had been the scapegoat for deficiencies within the state’s cricket setup that had been apparent for several years.”I think the blame for a lot of things has been unfairly dumped on Anthony Stuart,” Lee told Fairfax Media. “It should have been at the top, Dave Gilbert. He should’ve been made to go in my opinion. Cricket New South Wales is all about leadership, and while that comes from the coach, it comes from the top, too, and I believe for the last five or six years New South Wales has seriously dropped the ball … you can tell by their performances and it isn’t the guys on the cricket field – it’s the hierarchy.”New South Wales last won the Sheffield Shield in 2007-08 and the domestic one-day tournament in 2005-06, and for a state with such a proud history that is something of a drought. Lee said Gilbert, who has been chief executive for a decade, should have been held accountable by the board instead of getting rid of Stuart only a year and a half in to his two-year contract.”If David Gilbert appoints Anthony Stuart and then basically fires him, even though they’re saying his contract was not renewed, it was a bad call,” Lee said. “Why is he still there? In my opinion, it is a terrible situation and while Anthony Stuart was given the tap on the shoulder I believe the board should have gone right to the top and started with David Gilbert.”Lee said he was also unhappy with the way he was treated during the final stages of his state career, including when he was told after an appendix operation early last summer that he would need to fly to Melbourne to play in an Under-19s game to prove his fitness.”I wasn’t going to ‘earn’ my stripes for them,” Lee said. “I was 35 at the time and decided to just pull the pin. I’d proven my fitness by bowling in the nets for four weeks. It was a disgrace.”Lee said his impression of the current hierarchy at Cricket New South Wales had not improved when he announced his retirement earlier this year.”When I retired I phoned David Gilbert to thank Cricket New South Wales for all it had done for me, and the opportunities it presented me,” Lee said. “I believe in New South Wales cricket, I loved wearing the baggy blue, but I have not received a reply from him … every person I phoned, Ricky Ponting, James Sutherland, Adam Gilchrist … The only person who hadn’t phoned me back was Dave Gilbert and Cricket New South Wales.”It was disappointing but it’s important in this context because it’s about communication and support, something I believe is missing at New South Wales and it’s having a negative effect on the team.”Lee said the only way things would change at New South Wales would be through changes at the top.

Quinton de Kock, South Africa’s limited-overs wicketkeeper batsman, could miss some of the one-day series against New Zealand pending the outcome of a disciplinary hearing.De Kock, 20, and Cobras captain Justin Ontong will appear in front of a disciplinary commissioner “as soon as possible” according to Cricket South Africa after an altercation between de Kock and Alistair Gray, when the Cobras were fielding during their first-class match last week.Allegedly, de Kock pushed Gray after the umpires, Brian Jerling and Shaun George, changed the ball because they believed “the conditions of the ball had been altered” by the Cobras after 20 overs in the Lions second innings. De Kock was batting at the time and in accordance with protocol was asked to choose a replacement ball.The Cobras were reportedly unhappy with his choice because he selected a ball which was much older than the original one. Words were exchanged, following which there was a slight scuffle. The Lions won the match by eight wickets and lie third in the table while the Cobras remain at the top, despite the defeat.De Kock will appear in front of the commissioner on charges over his role in pushing an opposition player, while Ontong will face charges of ball tampering which the Cobras have denied. The ball itself will be sent away for tests to determine whether it was damaged in any way.If found guilty, de Kock will be banned for two matches which could rule him out of the first two ODIs in the series which starts in Paarl on Saturday. The second fixture takes place in Kimberley on Tuesday with the last match to be played in Potchefstroom on January 25.
