Arsenal's reply after being offered £56m Chelsea star in boost for Newcastle

Arsenal chiefs were recently handed the chance to sign a Chelsea star this summer, with sporting director Andrea Berta and the Gunners recruitment team delivering a clear response.

Mikel Arteta’s side have spent north of £200 million this window – an outlay signaling major ambition ahead of another Premier League title challenge.

Arsenal manager MikelArtetaduring a lap of appreciation after the match

There’s still interest in Eberechi Eze, with reports suggesting the player is keen on the move, but there’s still been no official bid to Crystal Palace. Arsenal are still in dialogue with the 27-year-old’s representatives (Fabrizio Romano), though, so a move for Eze remains on the cards as we enter the final three weeks of the summer.

Interestingly, BBC journalist Sami Mokbel doesn’t see it happening unless Arsenal can sell players first, namely Leandro Trossard.

They’ve also been linked with Rennes defender Jérémy Jacquet recently, who’s believed to be debating his long-term future after Arsenal’s approach for the 20-year-old recently (Graeme Bailey).

In a major boost for Arteta, the north Londoners brought an end to their long search for a new number nine.

Gyokeres

Viktor Gyokeres sealed a blockbuster move from Sporting CP to the Emirates Stadium late last month, in a deal worth up to £64 million with bonuses included following weeks of back-and-forth negotiations.

It’s a major statement from Berta, who was thought to be a big admirer of the 27-year-old and prioritised him over fellow top striker target at the time, Benjamin Sesko (Simon Phillips).

Gyökeres netted 54 goals in all competitions last season – numbers that made Europe’s elite take notice, but Arsenal ultimately won the race.

He arrives as the long-term solution through the middle, and has been handed the iconic No.14 shirt, once worn by Thierry Henry. Gyökeres has big shoes to fill, and the Sweden international will be desperate to get off the mark as soon as possible.

Arsenal needed firepower, and they’ve got it.

Interestingly, Berta was actually handed the chance to sign another rival centre-forward before agreeing a deal for Gyokeres.

Arsenal's response after being offered Chelsea striker Nicolas Jackson

That man was Chelsea striker Nicolas Jackson, who’s now set to leave Stamford Bridge and become one of the next moving number nines in this summer’s striker domino (Fabrizio Romano).

According to CaughtOffside, Arsenal turned down the chance to sign Jackson this summer after being offered the chance to do a deal, which also comes as good news for Newcastle, who’ve held informal talks with the Senegalese and have less competition in pursuit of his signature, with Man United also signing Sesko.

The 24-year-old did command a valuation of £80-£100 million, according to Sky Sports, but it is now believed that Chelsea could sanction his sale closer to the £56 million mark.

Joe Cole has actually called Jackson one of Chelsea’s “most important” players, but their deals for Joao Pedro and Liam Delap means his place in the first team is no longer cut and dry, with an exit firmly on the cards.

Their new Bowen: West Ham submit bid to sign "dangerous" forward for £34m

West Ham United are entering the new season with a clear need to reinvigorate their squad after a turbulent campaign that saw them finish 14th in the Premier League with 43 points.

The club replaced Julen Lopetegui in January with former Chelsea boss Graham Potter, who signed a two-and-a-half-year contract and is now tasked with building a squad capable of competing at a higher level.

The Hammers have already undergone significant changes this summer.

Star midfielder Mohamed Kudus was sold to Spurs for £55m, leaving a gap in creativity and attacking threat, while Lucas Paquetá, now cleared of all betting allegations, will be keen to repay the club’s support alongside talisman Jarrod Bowen.

West Ham bid for their new Bowen

West Ham are reportedly pursuing a dynamic winger whose flair and vision make him a potential answer to the team’s attacking needs.

Known for his precise dribbling and natural eye for goal, they have been praised for their ability to create chances both for himself and teammates.

Transfer Focus

Mega money deals, controversial moves and big-name flops. This is the home of transfer news and opinion across Football FanCast.

The player in question is Takefusa Kubo, the Japan international currently at Real Sociedad.

Kubo joined Real Sociedad permanently in July 2022 following a series of loans, having already impressed during his initial spell at the club.

Now, according to reports in Spain, Kubo has formally requested a transfer, citing dissatisfaction with Sociedad’s current sporting direction under president Jokin Aperribay.

Kubo has publicly criticised the club’s lack of investment and reinforcements, asserting that the team is not sufficiently competitive to challenge for Champions League qualification. Despite his discontent, Sociedad’s manager Sergio Francisco still regards Kubo as a key part of the team, underlining the challenge West Ham could face in finalising a deal.

Real Sociedad winger Takefusa Kubo

Reports suggest that West Ham are not alone in their pursuit. Other Premier League clubs, including Spurs, Everton, and Bournemouth, are believed to have made offers of £34m.

Named the club’s Player of the Season in 2022/23, Kubo’s contract runs until June 2029, and unless a club triggers his release clause – believed to be just over £50m, – Sociedad may feel little pressure to sell.

How Kubo compares to Bowen

In terms of statistics, Kubo has proven himself a highly productive winger.

In the 2024/25 La Liga season, he played 36 matches, scored five goals, and contributed 45 created chances.

Takefusa Kubo scores for Japan

He completed 75 take-ons, registered 14 shots on target, and recorded 129 touches in the opposition box, ranking in the 86th percentile for crosses with 3.32 per 90 minutes.

His ability to progress the ball and involve himself in the attacking build-up has consistently drawn plaudits from analysts and pundits alike.

West Ham’s potential acquisition of Kubo invites natural comparisons to Bowen, the club’s talismanic left-footed winger.

Bowen is renowned for his pace, movement, technical proficiency, and finishing ability.

Predominantly deployed on the right flank, he regularly cuts inside onto his stronger left foot to shoot or link up with teammates.

According to FBref, during his standout 2022/23 season, Kubo averaged 4.32 progressive carries per 90 minutes, compared to Bowen’s 2.69.

His progressive passes per 90 reached 2.99 versus Bowen’s 1.55, and he averaged 86.3 metres of progressive passing distance per 90, substantially higher than Bowen’s 54.5.

Pass completion rates were similarly competitive, with Kubo at 71% and Bowen at 68.9%.

West Ham United's JarrodBowencelebrates scoring their first goal

Kubo also excels in offensive creation. His shot-creating actions per 90 minutes stood at 3.55, compared to Bowen’s 2.42, while his successful take-ons per 90 were 1.81 against Bowen’s 1.01.

Carries per 90 (31.0 vs. 19.9) and touches in the attacking third (27.2 vs. 17.0) further underscore Kubo’s ability to dominate and influence play in the final third.

These metrics illustrate a player capable of a “dangerous 1v1 threat” in the words of data analyst, Ben Mattinson, but also consistently generating opportunities and driving attacks forward – qualities that mirror Bowen’s influence but with a slightly different stylistic nuance.

The two share more than just statistical comparisons; both are left-footed wingers who thrive in spaces between the opposition full-back and centre-back, using pace and intelligent movement to destabilise defences.

Kubo brings a level of unpredictability and technical finesse, while Bowen combines raw speed and goal-scoring instinct.

Integrating Kubo into the West Ham squad could offer Potter a more multidimensional attacking unit, providing options for both direct goal threats and intricate build-up play.

Financially, a deal for Kubo would represent a significant investment, but it could also pay dividends if the winger reaches or surpasses Bowen’s level of consistency.

Real Sociedad's Takefusa Kubo

With Premier League defences increasingly prioritising compactness, a player of Kubo’s ability could prove invaluable, particularly in unlocking tightly packed back lines.

West Ham’s reported interest in Kubo signals their ambition to sustain and potentially elevate their attacking output.

With Bowen already setting the benchmark on the flanks, Kubo’s arrival could introduce a complementary skill set that reinforces the club’s creative identity while adding depth, versatility, and dynamism to the squad.

Should negotiations succeed, the Premier League could witness a fascinating new chapter in West Ham’s offensive evolution.

Nicolas Jackson 'a perfect fit' for Bayern Munich as Vincent Kompany backs Chelsea loanee to play 'important role' alongside Harry Kane

Vincent Kompany believes Nicolas Jackson to be "a perfect fit" for Bayern Munich as the striker prepares for his Bundesliga debut.

Chelsea loanee joins on €16.5m dealKompany expects speed and attacking driveSenegal star eager to learn from KaneFollow GOAL on WhatsApp! 🟢📱WHAT HAPPENED?

Bayern unveiled Jackson as their latest signing after securing the Chelsea forward on a season-long loan in a deal that cost the Bundesliga champions €16.5m (£14m/$19m). The agreement also includes a conditional purchase clause worth €65m (£54m/$71m), though the conditions make it unlikely to be triggered. The 24-year-old Senegal international's arrival gives Kompany another attacking option to partner Harry Kane as they aim to defend their Bundesliga crown and compete for the Champions League title.

"This first phase is very important for him because he didn't have a proper preparation at Chelsea," Kompany said at a press conference unveiling the striker. "He's a good athlete and it won't take long for him to get back to 100 percent. We have to wait and see when he can play from the start. What I've seen so far is very good. He's a young player with a lot of quality. He'll pose a great threat with his speed and attacking drive."

He added: "We're always very flexible up front, and I think that's a good thing. That's why Nicolas Jackson's profile makes him a perfect fit. That's why he'll play an important role next season."

THE BIGGER PICTURE

With Kane already established as the team’s leading striker, Kompany now has a versatile forward capable of playing alongside or around the England captain. Jackson recently said that he is looking ahead to playing with Kane, who is already top of the Bundesliga goal chart alongside Michael Olise with three goals from two matches.

Jackson said: "Kane is one of the best strikers in the world. I hope to learn from him, complement his game, and build a strong bond on the pitch. We are two strikers who complement each other very well on the pitch, and we will work hard to ensure the results live up to expectations."

Jackson is expected to make his debut in the Bundesliga clash against Hamburg, and Bayern will hope his integration is smooth, particularly with Champions League fixtures looming. Beyond his immediate adaptation, the loan will also be a test run to see whether Jackson fits Bayern’s long-term vision. If he impresses alongside Kane, the club may yet revisit a permanent deal in the future.

Leeds meet £24.5m star's agents and now ready to trigger his release clause

Leeds United are active in the market and have now held a meeting to sign a talented playmaker who they have been heavily linked with this window, per recent developments.

Daniel Farke set to make key Leeds United transfer decisions

While the window rumbles on, Daniel Farke has plenty of decisions to make at the Elland Road helm, including who to keep and who to sell from his existing squad.

Addressing the future of one star under the microscope, Farke has confirmed Jack Harrison could be a part of Leeds United’s plans this season if he is able to win back the trust of supporters after spending two years on loan at Everton.

He stated: “Jack has many Premier League appearances and we would be stupid if we didn’t want to use that. It is a bit tricky if you have a couple of years away but that was a decision before my time.

“Right now he is back with us. He is a great guy, a hard worker and very reliable. It is up to him to win the confidence and trust back.”

Nevertheless, Leeds United are expected to turn to the market for more reinforcements, and Leicester City’s James Justin could move to Elland Road as he enters the last year of his deal at the Foxes.

Artem Dovbyk and Rodrigo Muniz are targets to strengthen Leeds’ forward line, albeit it remains to be seen whether Roma and Fulham, respectively, would be willing to let either leave for Yorkshire.

Focusing on the foil behind the strikeforce, Farke and the 49ers may now be closing in on a landmark deal for a statement addition, per reports.

Leeds hold meeting with camp of Leicester City playmaker Bilal El Khannouss

According to Sacha Tavolieri on X, Leeds have held a meeting with Leicester City star Bilal El Khannouss’s camp, Stirr Associates, and they have indicated that they would be willing to pay the Morocco international’s £24.5 million release clause.

His agency also represent new Whites signing Sebastiaan Bornauw, which could open the door to a deal being done following their previous successful negotiations with one of their clients.

Labelled a “sensational prospect” by Ben Mattinson, El Khannouss registered three goals and six assists in 37 appearances last campaign as Leicester suffered relegation.

Crystal Palace are also interested in his services, though Tavolieri has confirmed that Oliver Glasner would need to sell Eberechi Eze before a transfer could become viable for the South London-based outfit.

Taking note, Leeds now appear to be in the box seat to bring El Khannouss to Elland Road, providing they can navigate all moving parts of an evolving situation.

'Don't respect those who don't respect others' – Ruben Neves issues furious response after magazine questions close relationship with Diogo Jota's widow Rute Cardoso

Ruben Neves has hit back at a Portuguese magazine over speculation around his relationship with Diogo Jota's widow Rute Cardoso following the Liverpool forward's tragic death.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Portugal international Neves, who played alongside Jota at Wolverhampton Wanderers, accompanied Cardoso as the Midlands club paid tribute to her late husband before their opening fixture of the 2025-26 Premier League season against Manchester City on August 16. However after Portuguese magazine TV Guia produced a front-page cover focusing on Neves' support for Cardoso – alongside the caption "Ruben Neves and Rute United After Death: How Diogo Jota's widow leans on her best friend" – the midfielder issued a strong rebuke of the article on Instagram.

  • WHAT NEVES SAID

Commenting on TV Guia's post on Instagram, Neves – who has been married to Debora Lourenco for over a decade – said: "I always believe in the good in people, I've been warned not to do so, I've been wrong, and I never wish harm on anyone.

"The person who put this photo on the magazine cover doesn't deserve to be happy, just as their choice wasn't a happy one. My wife, Debora Lourenco, and I have been together for over 11 years, happy, with a family that makes me proud, and in 11 years we have never been involved in any controversy.

"We've done our best to help Rute and her family in the best way possible. The choice of this photo is as unfortunate as the person who chose it and the person who posted it. I respect that everyone has their own work, I respect that everyone wants to do their best, and I don't respect those who don't respect others."

Former international JP Duminy has stepped down from his role as South Africa’s white-ball batting coach for personal reasons. Duminy was appointed in March 2023 as part of Rob Walter’s support staff when Cricket South Africa (CSA) confirmed new coaches after the Mark Boucher era.Duminy was previously head coach of the SA20 side Paarl Royals and the domestic side Boland but it is not clear if he will continue to coach in the immediate future. He was with the white-ball team during their run to the 2023 ODI World Cup semi-final last year but had to leave the camp ahead of this year’s T20 World Cup in the USA and Caribbean in June, also for personal reasons. The CSA will begin the process of finding a replacement soon, but it may not be in time for the series against Pakistan which starts next week. The contest starts with three T20Is, which will be played without the white-ball players who are involved in the Test series against Sri Lanka, before moving to three ODIs, which will form part of Champions Trophy preparation.Should a full-time candidate not be found, CSA could second their batting lead, Imraan Khan, the former Dolphins coach who was appointed in August and traveled with the Test squad to Bangladesh. At the time, red-ball batting coach Ashwell Prince was unavailable but he has since returned to Test duties. In September this year, Duminy was named head coach of International League T20 (ILT20) side Sharjah Warriorz.

Clear-minded Patidar leads MP to SMAT final with his sixes

Having been retained by RCB for IPL 2025, the MP captain hopes to carry his confidence into his batting and leadership

Himanshu Agrawal14-Dec-2024Madhya Pradesh (MP) have made it to their first Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT) final since 2010-11, and their captain Rajat Patidar has been key to their success this season. Ahead of the final against Mumbai on December 15, he has scored 347 runs, including four half-centuries, and batted at an impactful strike rate of 182.63.Patidar has continued from where he had left off in the IPL this year, where he was Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s (RCB) third-highest run-getter with 395 runs at a strike rate of 177.13. It is his six-hitting ability which has helped him gallop at that pace. While at the IPL he smacked 33 sixes in 13 innings, Patidar has 21 sixes in the SMAT across eight innings.”I’m just trying to back my strength in the areas where I’m going to hit,” Patidar said after taking MP to victory against Delhi in the semi-final on Friday, when he cracked 66 not out off just 29 balls. “I was hitting long from last year, [and] last-to-last year. So I’m just trying to find the same pattern that I was playing [with] in IPL, and how I have to go about it.”Related

Patidar whirlwind blows Delhi away, MP in final

Patidar arrived to bat at a troublesome 46 for 3 in MP’s chase of 147 against Delhi, and he got going in no time despite the situation. Facing pace bowler Himanshu Chauhan, he slashed his fifth ball for four past point, before dispatching Chauhan for six over deep square leg to take 14 runs from the over. The sixes kept flowing off Patidar’s bat – he thumped six of them in total – with heaves over midwicket and long-on, and the pull over square leg earning him the big hits.”I try to put my impact on the opposition for my team,” he said on his consistency. “I’ve never paid attention to getting the big scores. My mantra is to play one ball at a time. So I try to do that. I’ve never thought that I’ll get a big score. I focus on what I can do.”Even against Saurashtra in the quarter-final, Patidar had walked out in a tricky situation in a bigger chase, but he had his say in the game. MP’s required run rate touched 10.14 an over with seven overs to go in their pursuit of 174, and he smashed 28 off 18 balls to help wrap up the chase with four deliveries remaining.RCB’s decision to retain Patidar for INR 11 crore for IPL 2025 has been vindicated by his performances in the SMAT. He feels RCB’s decision has given him “a lot of confidence”, and he “will be happy” if the opportunity to lead his IPL team arose in the future.”I’ve learned much. I’ve enjoyed learning more tactically because I love seeing the players, and anticipate what they can do,” he said of his captaincy stint with MP. “It’s a great time [which] I spend with my coach Chandrakant Pandit about captaincy. So, yeah, I am learning a lot.”MP face Mumbai in the final at the Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Sunday, a team they had beaten by six wickets in the Ranji Trophy 2021-22 final at the same ground. Patidar had scored 122 in that win, and he believes that the victory from two years ago will boost his side.
