Their own Gyokeres: Chelsea make late move to sign "aggressive" £69m star

Chelsea fans will be very encouraged by the start their side has made to the brand new Premier League season.

Enzo Maresca’s Blues were in speculative conversations last campaign about a surprise title push, but that did unfortunately fall to the wayside. However, with two wins and a draw from their opening three contests this time around, the West London outfit is one of the early pace-setters.

New signing up top in Joao Pedro has already set the league alight donning Chelsea blue, with five goals from his first six outings.

Yet, Liam Delap doesn’t continue the good news here when it comes to exciting attacking additions, with a nasty injury now keeping him sidelined after the 2-0 victory over near neighbours Fulham.

This could well trigger Chelsea into being active yet again in the striker department, as a £69m ace comes onto their radar.

Chelsea enter late race for £69m striker

The former Manchester City attacker could well be out for a prolonged period of time, with a fear he might be out for even more than the early estimate of six to eight weeks.

Transfer Focus

Mega money deals, controversial moves and big-name flops. This is the home of transfer news and opinion across Football FanCast.

As a result, Nicolas Jackson – who was due to sign for Bayern Munich on loan – has been told to return from Germany and not undergo a medical. Yet, he is understandably hesitant to return to Stamford Bridge as a back-up option. Consequently, Maresca and Co. could now have to try and strike up an extremely late deal for a rising star.

Indeed, as per an update from Sky Sports Germany reporter Florian Plettenberg, the unbeaten Blues have now made an approach to sign Sporting youngster Conrad Harder, with Chelsea on the hunt for a Jackson replacement, to then allow for that choppy move to finally occur.

RB Leipzig are also in the hunt for Harder; however, who has a whopping £69m release clause next to his name.

How Harder can become Maresca's own Gyokeres

If Chelsea can get a late move over the line, it might culminate in the West London outfit winning their very own Viktor Gyokeres, as another clinical Sporting attacker is gifted the grand opportunity to impress in the Premier League.

Gyokeres might well have struggled on his debut versus Manchester United, but he is now up and running in Arsenal red and white after bagging two strikes versus Leeds United, resulting in his trademark celebration coming out for all to see at the Emirates.

It felt like only a matter of time before the explosive Swede was going to grace the pitches of the English top-flight, having fired home a ridiculous 97 strikes for the Portuguese titans from just 102 clashes, after waving goodbye to Coventry City after a goal-laden stint in the EFL.

Of course, it’s ludicrous to insinuate that a far younger and rawer Harder will become this lethal overnight.

But, there is a method to the madness here, considering the 20-year-old Dane has already been heralded as the “next Gyokeres” by Scouted Football, on top of also being lauded as a “complete forward” by scout Jacek Kulig.

Amazingly, despite only starting six Liga Portugal clashes last season, the lively Scandinavian had a mightily impressive five goals to shout about, meaning he notched up a league goal for the Lisbon-based giants every 159 minutes.

But, even more impressively, despite only averaging 3.8 accurate passes per substitute cameo, Harder also tallied up five assists, with Gyokeres further known for this unselfish side to his varied game, having closed out his own time in Portugal last season with 11 assists in all competitions.

Conrad Harder for Sporting Club.

In the wake of Delap’s untimely injury, on top of Jackson’s future being up in the air, Harder might well finally be gifted the platform to be a leading man for a top side, with more goals and assists perhaps ready to come to the surface to elevate him even more to Gyokeres’ insane level.

Having once been dubbed “aggressive” by ex-Sporting boss Ruben Amorim, it remains to be seen whether the 20-year-old can be a success in such a demanding league.

It feels like a risk worth taking for Maresca and Co., though, as Harder and Gyokeres potentially go head-to-head to fire their respective sides to domestic glory.

+ Brasil x Senegal: onde assistir, escalações e desfalques do amistoso

Arsenal to launch huge Kenan Yildiz swoop? Gunners linked with €60m swap deal to sign Juventus ace

Arsenal could reportedly launch a mega Kenan Yildiz swoop as the Gunners have been linked with a €60 million (£52m/$70m) swap deal to sign the Juventus ace. The 20-year-old attacking midfielder has been on fire for the Old Lady this term. With two goals and four assists in just five appearances, Yildiz has rocketed to the top of Juve’s list of untouchables.

North London's obsession with Yildiz

reports that Mikel Arteta and his recruitment chiefs are “crazy” about the Turkish international. Behind the scenes, initial conversations are said to have been sparked, although it remains unclear whether they’ve reached out to the player’s camp, Juventus directly, or both. What is clear, however, is Arsenal’s burning intent to bring Yildiz to the Emirates.

AdvertisementGetty ImagesDetails of the deal

Arsenal are willing to table €60m in cash along with Leandro Trossard as bait. Juventus, though, reportedly value Yildiz closer to the €80-100m (£70m/$94m-£87m/$117m) bracket, making the proposed package a test of their resolve. For Juve, the Belgian winger offers experience and versatility, but at 31 this December, his resale value is slim compared to the rising star they currently possess.

Juve digging in their heels

Sources close to the Italian club insist the Bianconeri want to hold on to their prized asset. In fact, Juve are already working to lock Yildiz down on a fresh contract running until 2030. That long-term plan signals just how central the young midfielder is to their future vision. Letting him go now, even with €60m plus Trossard on the table, would be a bitter pill to swallow.

Despite strengthening his frontline in the summer, with the likes of Eberechi Eze, Victor Gyokeres, and Noni Madueke, Arteta is still keen to inject fresh creativity and youth into his attack. Yildiz, with his ability to glide past defenders and unlock tight games, fits the bill perfectly.

Sunderland in late contact to sign "intelligent" forward alongside Brobbey

After reaching an agreement to sign Ajax forward Brian Brobbey, Sunderland have now also reportedly made contact in pursuit of a Championship forward.

Sunderland reach agreement to sign Brobbey

There’s a strong argument to be made that Sunderland have enjoyed a better transfer window than any other newly promoted side ever. The Black Cats opened with a flourish, welcoming the likes of Granit Xhaka and Simon Adingra before starting their Premier League campaign in similar fashion. Now, with one last push, they’re reportedly advancing towards two more stars.

Two blockbuster deals, Brobbey is set to arrive as a result of Chelsea’s decision to recall Marc Guiu from loan following Liam Delap’s untimely injury. Whilst that decision did deal Sunderland a frustrating blow, it has arguably allowed them to land an instant upgrade.

Meanwhile, Geertruida will steal similar headlines. A versatile fullback who has plenty of experience at the top level, the Dutchman will slot straight in. After winning two of their opening three Premier League games, Sunderland are building a side capable of achieving more than just survival this season.

After watching on as his side got back to winning ways against Brentford, Regis Le Bris told reporters: “I am happy and we went until the end.

“We tried to win this game and it was really positive, the way we managed the game with two different halves. We controlled the first half without scoring or creating too many chances.”

It’s been a fantastic start to the season to follow a fantastic summer, and now both are about to get even better.

Sunderland make contact to sign Sargent

According to Pete O’Rourke of Football Insider, Sunderland have now made contact to sign Josh Sargent from Norwich City. The forward has been linked with a move away from Carrow Road for some time and could now get a late summer switch courtesy of those in Wearside.

Whilst a price tag has not been mentioned, Sargent is unlikely to come cheap at this stage of the window, although that has been no problem for Sunderland all summer long.

Norwich City'sJoshSargentcelebrates scoring their first goal

When it comes to quality, meanwhile, there’s little doubt that Sargent would be good enough to star for the Black Cats. The American has scored six goals in just five games this season in a struggling Norwich side, earning plenty of praise from manager Liam Manning along the way.

The Canaries will, of course, be desperate to keep hold of their forward, but they may have no choice but to open the exit door if Sunderland come knocking with an official offer.

Rahul joins DC team but availability for season opener not confirmed yet

New captain Axar also hoped to draw experience from team-mates Rahul and du Plessis, both of whom have led IPL teams in the past

ESPNcricinfo staff23-Mar-20255:24

Does Brook’s absence alter Rahul’s role?

The uncertainty over KL Rahul’s availability for Delhi Capitals’ IPL 2025 opener against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in Visakhapatnam continues even though he has joined the team. DC’s new captain Axar Patel confirmed that because of “personal” reasons Rahul may or not may play the first game. DC’s new head coach Hemang Badani also kept Rahul’s batting position in “suspense” and said people will have to “wait and watch” until Monday.”Obviously, he joined the team,” Axar said of Rahul’s availability. “We don’t know yet [if he’ll play]. Right now we don’t know if he is available or not.”Related

Spotlight on Rahul and Pant as DC and LSG begin new season with new hope

Axar takes over the DC captaincy from Rishabh Pant, who was bought by LSG, and looking at the high-scoring trends in the IPL since last season, said his team will have to “evolve” to keep up with the changing times. After scoring the highest IPL team total of 287 last season, Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) came very close to breaking their own record in the second game of the season when they racked up 286 against Rajasthan Royals while Axar was speaking in Visakhapatnam.”Nowadays cricket has changed a lot,” Axar said. “Mostly IPL is more about batsman’s game, fours and sixes. So we have to evolve as a team. At the end of the day, I don’t want to complicate things. As captain I told the group that cricket is a game, keep it simple. A good yorker is a good yorker ball and if your execution is good, then you will be fine. So I am not telling them too much that you should go for this and that. I am just asking them to keep it simple, that’s my strategy throughout the tournament.Axar Patel leads the team talk in his first season as captain in the IPL•Delhi Capitals”We learn from the last season, I said that cricket has evolved too much. From the last season we learned that you have to be ahead of the game. You can’t be chasing the game. It’s not like in the powerplay we have to swing the ball or we have to bowl length balls. We can even start from two-three slower balls. So it’s not any particular plan for any batsman. We have to change the plan according to the situation which I learned from the last season.”Axar and Badani both welcomed the two new rules of using the saliva on the ball and the sides bowling second in evening games having the option of changing the ball after the 10th over to try and counter the challenge of dew in the chase. Badani said the rules were in the “right direction” to bring “back the balance between bat and ball”.”The IPL is all about the batsmen nowadays. So if we get something for the bowlers, it’s very nice to see,” Axar said. “Now we can allow the saliva and if something is there for the bowlers, it’s great for the game also and for the bowlers, they can find that reverse swing at the end. Also in most of the venues in the IPL, the dew factor is there. So if after 10th over the fresh ball [option] is there, they are good rules and it’s very good for the bowlers. They have something to execute and they might find it easier [to stop the runs].”DC have never won the IPL in 17 years so far and handed Axar the captaincy over Rahul, who has led India in the past, and Faf du Plessis, who has captained South Africa and still leads in the SA20. Axar hoped to draw experience from them.”Our mindset is going there to express ourselves, be fearless and we are all ready to give our 100% and the players are also really enjoying the atmosphere here in DC family. We are ready to roll.”I am very confident about the Delhi Capitals team. I am playing since 2019 for Delhi Capitals and I have grown as a cricketer in this franchise. It’s an honour for me to lead this franchisee and there are many leaders in our team. So from them I get that experience and they are there for me. Faf is there, KL is there and many experienced players are there. So we have a good balanced team. And we will change the results this time.”

Release clause triggered for £10m+ Rangers star as 49ers accept permanent transfer

Rangers are preparing for the second leg of the Champions League qualification clash with Club Brugge. Russell Martin’s team are currently 3-1 down to the Belgian side following a catastrophic opening 20 minutes in the first leg.

Ahead of the tie, Russell Martin spoke about how Rangers still have hope of progressing in the competition: “This game is very much alive, and the tie is very much alive in our eyes.

“The guys ran more in the last game against Brugge than they have done for pretty much two years at this football club. They’re willing to run for us, they’re willing to work for us. At the minute, we have a little bit of inconsistency in selection, trying to find a rhythm, trying to find a way, but things will settle down very soon.”

Martin’s side needs to score at least two goals, but they will be without one of last season’s top three goal-scorers as a Ligue 1 side have triggered the player’s release clause.

Lille bid for Igamane accepted

Rangers have accepted a bid from French side Lille for Moroccan forward Hamza Igamane. The French side have placed a bid worth £10.5 million, which is equal to the release clause in his contract.

Hamza Igamane

Igamane looked set to leave after he claimed to be unable to come off the bench in the Scottish Premiership match against St Mirren due to an injury. The 22-year-old joined Rangers last summer for just under £3 million and has registered 19 goal involvements in 49 appearances for the club.

The 49ers have brought in a number of attacking players this summer, such as Oliver Antman and Thelo Aasgaard, but have yet to sign a new striker. However, the club does still have Cyriel Dessers and Danilo available to play up front.

Last season, Igamane was praised by talent scouts for his impressive skills, with Ben Mattinson describing him as, “completely unpredictable, tonnes of flair and trickery. The type of player to try outrageous moves/shots just because”.

However, his stock among Rangers fans has drastically fallen over the summer transfer window as the player has made it clear he wants out.

Where it went wrong for Martin and Igamane

Earlier in the window, Igamane was linked with a move to Everton, who were looking to increase their attacking firepower, but that move did not materialise. Due to this, the forward appears to have taken drastic measures to force a move out of the club.

During Sunday’s 1-1 draw with St Mirren, Igamane was called off the bench but refused, claiming to have an injury. If this injury was known prior to the match, he almost certainly would not have been selected for the squad, leading many to believe that it was a stunt to push through a move away from the club.

Speaking ahead of the Champions League fixture, Martin was more open about the topic, saying that Igamane “got what he wanted”.

The situation between Igamane and Rangers clearly became un-salvageable following the strikers’ actions, and the test for the 49ers and Martin will be if they can use their newfound funds before the transfer window closes.

1 – Força do Allianz Parque

Leeds now want international star who ripped Real Madrid defender to shreds

Leeds United are plotting for the January transfer window and could now look to sign a young talent who recently got the better of a Real Madrid superstar.

Leeds United move on after summer transfer window

Among supporters of the Elland Road club, there is a feeling that more may have been done by Daniel Farke and company in the final days of the window to land signings, albeit that is not the way things transpired.

Speaking to Football Insider, Pete O’Rourke has explained why Leeds missed out on a late move to sign Manor Solomon after he ended up at Villarreal amid interest in his services.

He stated: “There’s always competition for these players’ signatures. Manor Solomon, Palace tried to sign him but he’s gone to Villarreal, he’s got Champions League football – Leeds can’t offer that right now. Obviously, Palace had money in their pockets to spend following the sale of Eberechi Eze, and the chance of European football as well.

“There’s no regrets from Daniel Farke – he will now move on and work with what he’s got, to try and ensure that Leeds are well-placed come the January window.”

Despite the window being closed, Leeds are plotting a move to sign free agent Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain after he was released from Besiktas, and he would potentially ease their midfield issues after injuries to Ao Tanaka and Ethan Ampadu.

Manchester City youngster Nico O’Reilly is also on the Whites’ radar, though reports suggest it may be difficult to entice him away from the Etihad Stadium in January.

Nevertheless, bolstering the engine room will be important to their survival prospects in the Premier League, and a more realistic target has now been identified following his recent exploits.

Leeds United want to sign West Bromwich Albion star Isaac Price

According to EFL Analysis, Leeds are keen to sign West Bromwich Albion midfielder Isaac Price, who is also wanted by the likes of Burnley, Brentford, Crystal Palace and Fulham.

Of course, his exploits for Northern Ireland against Germany in World Cup qualifying have earned widespread attention. The 21-year-old gave Real Madrid’s Antonio Rudiger a torrid evening, winning more duels and tackles up against the German and getting him booked, while his stunning volley to equalise against a high-profile opponent was worth the entrance fee alone.

At club level, Price has registered three goals and two assists in five appearances across all competitions this term with the Baggies, establishing himself as a regular on the scoresheet due to his box-crashing tendencies.

After offering Rudiger a tough outing, Leeds appear to have taken notice of his displays and could look to tempt him away from the Hawthorns while he is in reach.
